As time has gone by several things can be said about the Volkswagen Golf series: including the strong reaction most buyers have towards their car. The 4-cylinder engine is at the core of the strong emotions, it is reliable for its class and delivers a huge amount of torque.
The 1991 Toyota MR2 Base was introduced to compete in the coupe market. The Base is a member of a series of two trim levels for the MR2 which include Base and Turbo. The two-door car with its rear-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Toyota. There is strong competition from vehicles from Hyundai.

The Golf TDI is equipped with a Volkswagen 1.9 liter four-cylinder engine that utilizes 8 valves. The engine is mated to a Volkswagen 5-speed Transaxle. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Volkswagen.
In 1992 Volkswagen released the Golf GTI 16-Valve to the car-buying market. The Golf came in three configurations: GL, GTI 16-Valve, GTI 8-Valve, and Base. The GTI 16-Valve configuration is powered by the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which makes 32 - 38 highway miles and 23 - 25 city. The Golf competes in the Hatchback market segment, in direct competition with Toyota.
Volkswagen has been blessed with many award-winning designs, including the Volkswagen Golf of 1995. There are five trim levels to the Golf, including GL, GTI VR6, Celebration Edition, City, Sport, CL, and Base. The GL version is one of the more popular options. Like in 1994 the popular 2.0 liter has made this a popular choice for hatchback buyers around the world.
