The 1993 MR2 is an important vehicle to Toyota for the coupe market segment. The Base is a member of a series of two trim levels for the MR2 which include Base and Turbo. The two-door car with its rear-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Toyota. There is strong competition from vehicles from Kia.

Under the Hood

The MR2 Base is equipped with a Toyota 2.2 liter four-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The engine is mated to a Toyota 4-speed Transaxle. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Toyota.
