Pontiac Firebird

Pontiac has been blessed with many award-winning designs, including the Pontiac Firebird of 2000. There are three trim levels to the Firebird, including Trans Am, Base, and Formula. The Base version is one of the more popular options. Like in 1999 the popular 3.8 liter Buick has made this a popular choice for convertible buyers around the world.

Performance

The Firebird Base is equipped with a General Motors 3.8 liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 12 valves. The Buick engine is mated to a General Motors 4-speed Transmission. This is a long-standing favorite for buyers in the Convertible arena.

Steering control is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Firebird has power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. The car uses coil front springs and coil in the rear.

The 2000 Firebird’s traditional fuel system runs on gas. The fuel is regulated electronically, with a fuel-injected multi-port fuel injection style of design. The fuel tank holds 16.80 gallons.

Vehicle Statistics

The Firebird is 193.30 inches long, 74.50 inches wide, and 52.00 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 101.10 inches. It is able to seat 4 comfortably.

The standard warranty period for the Firebird is 36 months, or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. The warranty also includes a warranty on the drivetrain for 36 months or 36,000 miles respectively. This is standard in the convertible market. Extended warranties are also available through the dealer.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $18,690 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $17,101. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Convertible.

Fuel Efficiency

The 2000 Firebird gets 29 - 30 miles/gallon on the highway and only 19 in the city. This is exceptional for a convertible car.

In 1999 and 2000 the Firebird Base was availble in the exterior colors of Arctic White, Black, Blue-Green Chameleon, Bright Red, Maple Red Metallic, Navy Blue Metallic, Pewter Metallic, and Silver Metallic. Additional options were made available by the factory.

Conclusion

There are several reasons why the Pontiac Firebird Base sold well in 2000. Mainly the increase in availability and a marked improvement in quality meant the buying public was more apt to choose a Pontiac, specifically a Firebird.
