Pontiac GTO

When you think of the “Pontiac GTO” what will usually come to mind for Pontiac enthusiasts is quality, stability and lots of history. The GTO has been one of the premier vehicles of the Pontiac line for over ten years. It is an important car and the 2005 model is no exception. The Pontiac GTO falls into the coupe for the family category.

2005 Pontiac GTO Base Specs

The GTO Base is equipped with a General Motors 6.0 liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The engine is mated to a General Motors 4-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Pontiac.

Steering control is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The GTO comes equipped with power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. The car uses coil front springs and coil in the rear.

The fuel system for the 2005 GTO is a SFI design, using gasoline fuel. The fuel flow is controlled by a electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The fuel capacity of the fuel tank is 18.00 gallons.

Statistics

The dimensions of the GTO Base are 72.50 inches wide by 189.80 inches long. It sits 54.90 inches off the ground. It seats a standard four passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 109.80 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.

The standard warranty period for the GTO is 36 months, or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the coupe market.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $32,295 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $29,873. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Coupe.

MPG Ratings

The GTO Base received a miles-per-gallon rating of seventeen in-city driving and twenty five when it came to highway driving. Being a gas-powered non-hybrid car, this was within normal parameters.

In 2004 and 2005 the GTO Base was availble in the exterior colors of Cyclone Gray, Impulse Blue Metallic, Midnight Blue Metallic, Phantom Black Metallic, Quicksilver Metallic, Torrid Red, and Yellow Jacket.

Parting Shots

The 2004 model began the promise of the Pontiac GTO. The 2005 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Pontiac hopes that the GTO Base will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
